Are paper books better than eBooks?

Okay, I have a confession to make. I by far prefer paper books to eBooks. I love holding books in my hand, and getting to turn the pages. I love the smell and the feel of books. I’ve heard plenty of others share my opinion.

That is fine. You are entitled to your opinion. However, there are also people who claim that eBooks are not ‘real’ books, and you are not a ‘real reader’ if you read eBooks. And that, in my opinion is not okay.

I keep seeing memes like this.

Most of these are in humour, and so I don’t think it is a problem. However, I find it extremely annoying when people act like not owning a Kindle, and sticking to paper books make them better readers.

Sure, you may like buying a lot of books, arranging them on your shelf in order, buying every new edition and feeling the paper on your skin. However, those are not what make you a reader. Only one thing makes you a reader-reading. And when you read, it does not matter what format your book is in. All that matters is what is written.

It does not matter what format your book is in, whether it is a paperback, a hardback, an eBook, an audiobook, or any other format. All that matters is what is written in the book.

So, do tell me your opinions on this, if you agree or disagree.
