I just read this book, and I finally came to the conclusion that Becky Chambers’s books just aren’t for me. I had tried reading the Wayfarers books, and I just couldn’t get into it. As for this one, I get the appeal, but it just wasn’t for me.
This book follows Dex, a nonbinary tea-monk who in his travels encounters Mosscap, a robot. The robots at the time lead lives completely separate from humans, and so Dex and Mosscap end up enjoying finding out more about each other.
The world-building was pretty cool. It had a fresh and optimistic take. But my major issue was that nothing seemed to happen at all. I was quite bored throughout the book. Again, this is a ‘me’ thing, I am sure many would enjoy this book for the characters and the world building. But, I need a plot to enjoy a book. The writing, while competent, did not captivate me either.
