The Reluctant Fundamentalist is the story of Changez, a Pakistani man in the US who had once embraced a Westernized lifestyle only to see the illusion of the American dream fall apart.
I thought the story made some interesting commentary, but overall, i found it rather underwhelming. The writing style was somehow rather bland and i couldn’t really connect to the characters. There were some poignant ideas and critiques, but for the most part, I didn’t find it particularly engaging. I also didn’t quite see the point of the romance. I suppose there is some symbolism there about Erica being America, but it kind of went over my head. Overall, a decent but forgettable read. Rating:3/5
